Originally, Huskies were the winter sled dogs of the Chukchi people of Siberia. These hardy animals were expected to travel rather quickly for long distances pulling a moderate load in low temperatures. The breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1930.

Siberian Huskies belong to the working group of dogs; they are compactly built and display great endurance, strength and stamina. Dogs of this breed are well adapted to severe climate of Siberia with their thick coat of medium length. The breed is not recommended to hot climates.
