Anyone wanting to adopt a Siberian Husky is asked about the purposes of adoption, experience with dogs in general and knowledge of the breed's specifics. As a matter of fact, officers who are involved in rescue work are not willing to let inexperienced owners adopt a Husky. This may result in further problems and cause even more harm.

It is acknowledged that all Siberian Huskies that stem from rescues are spayed/neutered and have received the basic medical care. They are checked for external and internal parasites and vaccinated. Future owners are warned about possible problems since rescued dogs may show behavioral and health disorders. Yet, it should be kept in mind that all dogs are evaluated and will not go to a new home if they have an unstable personality or serious diseases.

Adopting a Siberian Husky with health problems demanding further treatment or specific temperament traits that should be coped with is a challenge. Only devoted breed fanciers who cannot stay aloof when coming across abandoned dogs will take the responsibility of providing appropriate care for Siberian Huskies.

Siberian Huskies - Siberian Huskies are working dogs and should display a considerable amount of strength. Dogs that come close to the official AKC standard are compactly built and do not show any signs of being overweight. Males are usually bigger than females. Their height ranges from 21 to 23 inches when measured at the withers. Females are rather feminine, yet showing no weakness. They reach the height of about 20-22 inches and weight from 35 to 50 pounds, ten pounds less than males.

The downy coat is very soft and it keeps in the body's warmth whereas the outer coat protects from the cold and wind and does not let the water penetrate to the skin. As the coat of Siberian Husky dogs is double layered, it is able to withstand temperatures as low as -58 degrees to -76 degrees F (-50 degrees to -60 degrees C). The hair between the toes on the feet of the dog is for gripping on ice.
